Community & Services

This page is full of various community resources and businesses, and it’s a bit long! If you are looking for something specific, it might be helpful to use the “search” function (although it does not work perfectly).

Many of the businesses on these lists are LGBTQ+ friendly, and some are also LGBTQ+ owned. If you are looking for LGBTQ+ owned businesses specifically, check out this awesome directory: www.tinyurl.com/WSURI.

For an additional list of LGBTQ+ friendly places, check out Engayge – find lgbtq+ friendly recommendations on “Flynn’s List” and More.

Incorporated in 2011, TGI Network of Rhode Island is the only statewide organization providing support and advocacy for the TGI community in Rhode Island and surrounding areas. Our mission is to serve the needs of the transgender, gender diverse, and intersex (TGI) communities in Rhode Island and surrounding areas through support, advocacy, and education.

We are the Greater Providence area chapter of PFLAG, formerly known as Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. We provide support, education and advocacy for parents, families, friends and allies of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people across Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts and Eastern Connecticut.

Project Weber/RENEW provides peer-led harm reduction and recovery support services, builds relationships with the people we serve, and fights for systemic change. We empower people who engage in drug use and/or sex work to make healthier and safer choices in their own lives.

Our Beyond program, which was named by clients and is short for “Beyond the Understanding of Gender,” provides support to trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming clients and offers a space to be in community with others who share these identities.

The core of this program is our weekly support group, which meets Wednesdays from 3:30-5 p.m. at our drop-in center at 640 Broad St. in Providence. Activities at the group range from arts and crafts to hairstyling events to presentations about safe recovery housing options for trans people.

The Beyond program also offers case management. We can help clients:

  • change their legal name and/or gender markers on official documentation, such as licenses and birth certificates,
  • purchase gender-affirming garments like binders,
  • access peer support and other services if they are currently engaged in sex work,
  • connect to gender-affirming medical care

To learn more about Beyond, contact Trans Program Manager Sidney Lane Smith at ssmith@weberrenew.org.
