Bio
Syd LaBonte (they/them/él) is a clinical social worker based in Providence, RI. With over five years of experience working with high-risk children, adolescents, and families across community-based, hospital-based, and outpatient settings, Syd brings a wealth of expertise. They hold both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work from Rhode Island College, specializing in trans and gender-diverse youth as well as attachment theory. Syd is a Certified Advanced Child, Youth, & Family Social Worker.
Syd’s therapeutic approach is grounded in an anti-oppressive framework, and they are deeply committed to working with high-acuity, chronic-risk adolescents and their families. While not a certified DBT provider, Syd has extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and incorporates DBT, relational therapies, and attachment-based trauma therapy into their practice.
In addition, they are the Conference Coordinator for the Rhode Island Trans Health Conference (2023-2025). They are also an adjunct faculty member at the RIC School of Social Work. Syd holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Rhode Island College, with a specialization in trans & gender diverse youth and attachment. Their therapeutic approach is rooted in an anti-oppressive framework, and they are passionate about working with adolescents and families. Syd integrates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), relational therapies, and attachment-based trauma therapy into their practice.
Supervision & Consultation
Syd offers consultation and supervision for clinicians regarding the following topics: LGBTQIA+, gender identity, gender affirming surgery letters, children/youth, family therapy, and attachment trauma. Syd is available in person or virtually and providing consultation on a sliding scale basis.


Training & Education
Syd offers one-time and ongoing training for licensed mental health professionals, medical providers, schools, non-profits, businesses, and faith communities. Their clinical expertise is with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. Cost is on a sliding scale, and training can be offered on weekdays, evenings, or weekends, in person or virtually.
QueerRI
Syd created and manages QueerRI.com, a collaborative hub of LGBTQ+ resources in the state of Rhode Island and beyond.
RI Trans Health Conference
Syd has been the Conference Coordinator for the RI Trans Health Conference from 2023 – 2025, reviving it after the COVID-19 Pandemic required the conference to go on hiatus. Syd manages a Planning Committee of 30 individuals each year, who work together to make the conference such a success.
Child & Family Therapy
Syd is a child & family therapist at Compassionate Care Counseling in Lincoln, RI. Syd has worked extensively with children, youth, and families dealing with attachment disruptions, trauma, and chronic mental illness. Syd also specializes in caring for trans & gender diverse youth.
